The singer, 48, took to the stage to debut her new single With You – but seemed unable to move in her skintight fishtail dress, leaving fans in hysterics on Twitter.
The Hero hitmaker dazzled in a glittering black gown on the red carpet, but changed into a brighter number for her performance.
With the hot pink gown clinging to her figure from head to toe, Mariah looked stunning as she wowed the crowds with her vocals.
However, viewers at home started to notice that Mariah could not move in the frock – waving only one arm up and down in way of performance.
Taking to Twitter to mock the awkward appearance, they wrote in their droves: "Mariah’s dress lets me know that she’s not moving from that spot at all #AMAs…"
And: "Mariah is the laziest performer I’ve ever seen in my life.. lmbo.. she has only moved one arm."
Other viewers joked: "Sooo no one is concerned that Mariah can’t move her legs at all?!?" and "Mariah came to sing but moving costs extra."
While another pretended to praise her minimal movement, adding: "Why Mariah Carey didn’t move at all? I’m still trippin over that lol She stood very well tho. 10/10 on the stance."
Further fans even shared a number of funny memes about the performance – with one writing beside an image of a Barbie doll: "Mariah Carey's performance on the #AMAs"
And another adding beside a clip of the scene: "I've never believed Mariah Carey could actually walk. Still don't."
Mariah was only performing at the annual awards, with her first studio album in four years set for release in late 2018.
Taylor Swift instead made history at the bash by nabbing four gongs, including the coveted Artist of the Year.
The wins took her AMAs tally up to 23, overtaking Whitney Houston as the most awarded female artist.
