Seann Walsh moved to tears by touching gift from ex on Strictly opening night

When Seann Walsh signed up to Strictly Come Dancing his girlfriend Rebecca Humphries was over the moon.

She had no idea the show would spell the end of their five-year relationship – and leave her walking out on him clutching the cat.

So to celebrate her love’s success in securing a place on the hit show she gave him a touching gift to wish him luck before his first performance with Katya Jones.

And he admitted he was moved to tears by Rebecca’s support when he signed up for Strictly.

He told the Mirror: "On the first night, Rebecca got me a book with loads of messages from my friends in it wishing me luck."

He continued: “As the pages went on, there were messages from other comedians that I look up to like Romesh Ranganathan, Jack Dee, Mark Steel and Sian Gibson.

“Then I turned to the very last page and there was a message from Peter Kay. Peter Kay! My eyes watered.

"He’s one of my favourite comedians but I’ve never met him. He’s an absolute hero of mine. A legend.

“Peter wrote, ‘I appreciate we’ve never met, but best of luck.

"Work your socks off. I’ve got to go – I’m in the cinema with my mum and I’ve just been told to turn my phone off’.

"It was so amazing my eyes watered.”

Just weeks later Sean would lock lips with Katya outside a London pub in pictures that left Rebecca humiliated.

Last night, Seann’s exbroke her silence after that snog scandal.

Rebecca took to Twitter yesterday evening to slam the "controlling" comedian who dubbed her "psycho" when she addressed his changing behaviour.

"My name is Rebecca Humphries and I am not a victim," her statement began.

"I wasn’t sure whether to respond to events from the past week, but I feel the narrative has missed a couple of crucial elements that I would like to clear up.

"It’s incredibly good of Sean(n) and Katya to apologise in the media.

"I have received nothing other than the support of my family, friends and a host of strangers on the internet who all wanted to make sure I was OK."

Pictures emerged of Seann enjoying a passionate drunken snog with his dance partner Katya outside a London pub last week.

Seann, 32, and Katya, 29, did nothing to hide their affection for each other after emerging from a pub in Marylebone, Central London, hand in hand last Wednesday.

Rebecca continued: "Those pictures were taken on October 3rd. It was my birthday. I was alone at home when Sean texted at 10pm saying the two of them were going for one innocent drink.

"We spoke and I told him, not for the first time, that his actions over the past three weeks had led me to believe something inappropriate was going on.

"He aggressively, and repeatedly, called me a psycho / nuts / mental. As he has done countless times throughout our relationship when I’ve questioned his inappropriate, hurtful behaviour."

She added: "But – this whole business has served to remind me that I am a strong, capable person who is now free; and no victim.

"I have a voice and will use it by saying this to any woman out there who deep down feels worthless and trapped with a man they love: Believe in yourself and your instincts.

"It’s more than lying. It’s controlling. Tell some very close friends, who if they’re anything like my wonderful network, will swoop in and take care of the logistics and of you.

"It’s important also to recognise that in these situations those who hold power over you are insecure and fragile, and their need for control comes from a place of vulnerability.

"I think it certainly does in Sean’s case. Despite everything, I hope he gets what he wants from this. I’m not sorry I took the cat though."

Seann hinted that not all was happy at home before he was caught snogging his dance partner Katya Jones.

The comedian moved in with his girlfriend Rebecca Humphries in 2014 and later that year complained about his partner during a performance at that year’s Edinburgh Comedy Festival.

Making light of the frictions at home, the comic moaned that his other half stopped him from drinking, wouldn’t let him sleep in and was very anal about house cleanliness.

"I have met and moved in with my girlfriend. You know what it’s like, you have to change, you have to adapt, different ways of looking at life," he said.

"I’ve had to cut down on my drinking. I’m still allowed to go out, but I’m not allowed to come home drunk. Sorry, what? How does that work? What do you want me to do, meet them in the front garden? I have to go out sober."

He continued: "I love living with my girlfriend, I do, but there are some things that are very difficult to adjust to. For example she’s one of these morning people.

"She wakes me up. The other day she woke me up to tell me she was going out. What? Come on!

"’Darling, darling, I’m going out’. Let’s just assume that when I wake up and you’re not there, I don’t think you’re playing hide and seek.

"Sometimes she wakes me up and pretends she’s being nice. She’ll wake me up, ‘darling, darling, I’ll make a cup of tea’. How can I want a cup of tea? I’m asleep. I don’t want anything. You haven’t made a cup of tea, have you? You’ve made a plan. I have to get up and do."

Seann also complained about her tidiness, adding: "The flat has to be spotless at all times in case we have guests. Guests! I used to have friends.

"I remember friends would come round, we’d talk nonsense then go out. What are these guests doing? Coming round and leaving comments on TripAdvisor? ‘I was having a great time until I saw a DVD out of its case, two stars.’"

"Strictly have confirmed that Seann and Katya will be dancing together this weekend as planned. No-one is pulling out of the show," read a statement from the Beeb according to Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford .
