Line of Duty star Vicky McClure devastated over death of friend as she makes emotional appeal for cancer charity

LINE Of Duty star Vicky McClure has been left "devastated" after the death of a close school friend aged 35 from a progressive brain tumour.

The actress, who plays Detective Inspector Kate Fleming in the hit cop show, paid tribute to Tyrone Wayland Pinnock when he died, just 18 months after being diagnosed.

The 35-year-old posted a picture of them together on Instagram, writing: "We went to school together.

"He was by far one of the kindest, funniest, the most caring guy you could wish to know and for his family and friends it’s a devastating time.

“We must keep funding the wonderful people that give invaluable support, care and compassion to those battling and their families.

"From the bottom of my heart, thank you in advance for any donation you can give. And for those of you who didn’t know Ty, you do now. Lucky you!"

Vicky, 35, added: "That smile is hard to forget. ? Rest easy Ty xxx ♥️”

Tyrone, who went to school with Vicky in Nottingham, had a progressive brain tumour and was diagnosed with haemophilia as a baby.

The Mirror reports his sister Ebony Laws saying: “I met Vicky at Ty’s funeral. She was very comforting. They had been very friendly and stayed in contact.

“She was gutted and came to pay her respects. She was devastated too.”

Tyrone also had a 12-year-old daughter with wife Serena.

She said: “We’re aware of Vicky’s support and we’re grateful."

A team of friends are now trying to raise £10,000 to support Macmillan Cancer Support and The Haemophilia Association, partly in his name.

Vicky returns as DCI Kate Fleming in tonight's third episode of the gripping fifth series of Line of Duty.
