Children’s TV star Timmy Mallett has a new job working at supermarket Iceland.
The legendary Wacaday presenter is starring in a new online video series for the shop and has been appointed “Chief Ice Lolly Tester”.
The series sees Timmy – and his trusty mallet – return to review Iceland's range of retro sweet shop favourites including cola bottles, Sherbet Dip Dabs and Blackjack flavours.
Instead of whacking kids with his foam mallet, the 65-year-old now licks lollies and awards marks of “squillions” to the tasty treats.
A clip shows Timmy, who presented Wide Awake Club and Wacaday in the 80s, making sure to get his famous “utterly brilliant!” catchphrase in.
He advises Brits who have been melting in the summer heatwaves: “If you want something utterly brilliant, get yourself an ice lolly!”
Another scene shows the star sampling a stripy Blackjack lolly.
“I used to love Blackjacks," he says. "The aniseed has a certain zing to it. I wonder if these turn your tongue black?”
After a taste, he concludes: “That is a flavour that makes me want to go ‘bleugh!'”
Episodes of the series will drop weekly on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok and Timmy couldn’t be happier with his new role.
“I’m so utterly excited to be Iceland’s Chief Ice Lolly Tester!” he exclaimed. “Who would have thought that trying lollies would be so much fun?
“After trying and testing the whole Barratt range (yes I tried ALL of them), I just have to say that the flavours are brilliant and the Fruit Salad is the same colour as my mallet!”
While he certainly sounds thrilled with his new position, Timmy previously shared that there is another job on his career bucket list – Strictly.
The 80s star thinks he’s got the moves for the BBC ballroom show and has made it clear he is hoping to get an invite.
He said last year: “I haven’t been asked to do it, but I am a fantastic dancer. I have some fabulous moves.
“Mrs Mallett laughs at me, but I’m proud of what I can do on the dancefloor.”
The Barratt Ice Cream Lolly range, exclusive to Iceland stores, has ice lolly variants of retro sweets including WHAM, Foam Bananas, Sherbert Fountain, Flumps, Fruit Salad and more.
