Keith Flint spent final days before his death celebrating his dog’s birthday and liked to help elderly neighbours in the garden

A local Essex source tells The Sun Online that the Prodigy frontman was celebrating his dog’s birthday at a Chelmsford pub.

“About three days before he passed away, I ran into Keith at the Galvin Green Man pub,” the source says.

“He was there with one of his dogs, a mixed breed one, and he bought the dog a whole steak, saying it was the dog’s birthday and it was a treat.

“He was a huge dog lover – I think he had about seven or eight dogs – and you’d always see him in the local village walking them.

“He was so kind as well – he’d often offer to cut elderly neighbour’s hedges or help out with their garden.”

Two days before he was found dead at home, the musician also completed the 5k Chelmsford Central Park Run, achieving a personal best time of 21m 22s.

The frontman previously admitted to a long battle with drink, drugs and depression and said his wife Mayumi Kai “saved him”.

Mayumi was in Japan when Keith was found “unresponsive” by medics yesterday morning at the £1.5million marital home in Dunmow.

Keith had only weeks before returned from Prodigy’s tour of Australia, so they had barely been in the same country over recent months.

The couple married in 2006, and besotted Keith once described the Japanese model and DJ as “beautiful, f***ing cool”.

Describing their country lifestyle, he once said: “We like to take picnics and sandwiches, driving through the green lanes.

“My wife loves the house, the dogs, and the animals we have around us, the deer and the fox that comes and pokes his head through the hedge.”

The couple are thought to have split a year ago, and recently, Keith decided to sell the £1.5m Essex farmhouse which he had described as his sanctuary.

Estate agents Anderson’s posted details of it last Friday — although they were removed yesterday.

Land Registry documents showed a property adjustment order was made on the house last March — entitling his wife to a share.
