Katherine Ryan shares moving throwback snap after suffering second miscarriage

KATHERINE Ryan has bravely opened up on her pregnancy loss and issued a supportive message for those battling through their miscarriage grief.

The Canadian comedienne, 38, who suffered two back to back miscarriages before giving birth to first son Fred in June, took to her Instagram grid for the emotional post.

The Ready To Mingle host is now a mum of two, sharing daughter Violet, 11, with an ex.

She started off with a trigger warning for pregnancy loss followed by a rainbow Emoji icon.

Katherine uploaded a shot of her bare belly in her bathroom, with a rainbow reflection clearly seen over her tum.

The 8 Out of 10 Cats star wrote: "A year ago, exactly two months after losing our second pregnancy at 13 weeks, I saw this light in the shower and took a pic because I knew it was Fred.

"I’d been taking steroids and blood thinner injections as part of Dr Shehata’s groundbreaking miscarriage treatment since our last loss.

During #pregnancylossawareness month, I hope your non-linear journey proves to be a happy one in the end.

BABY JOURNEY

Katherine previously exclusively told The Sun of her heartbreaking baby loss.

Tragically Katherine, who is in a civil partnership with childhood sweetheart Bobby Kootstra, lost two babies in very quick succession before getting pregnant again and carrying full term.

The Duchess creator, who has joined forces with Gousto to launch their BBQ and picnic range, explained: “We were not trying for long, I get pregnant really easily.  I was pregnant for 18 months, which is the gestation of an elephant.

“I was pregnant and then we lost that one, and then I was pregnant and we lost that one and then I was pregnant and that was Fred. They were late in the first trimester or early second trimester.”

Unfortunately, due to coronavirus and various restrictions, Bobby was unable to be with Katherine when she heard the news the second time.

“There were a lot of dad’s getting bad news in parking lots, it wasn’t great but I am happy there is a dialogue now,” she said.

“The first time he was with me but the second time was lockdown and he was in the parking lot.”

SECRET PREGNANCY

Katherine managed to keep her pregnancy hidden almost right up until she gave birth, which she now says wasn’t intentional.

She says, while partly it was out of respect to people who had fresh losses themselves, it was easy because  people just assumed she had gained a little weight and had more Botox.

“A lot of it was suspicion,” she said. “Even for myself, we didn’t talk about it in the house, so it wasn’t that I was hiding it from people, it was just something we did not address at all.

“We didn’t speak about it between us really. Also, because I had spoken to people about loss, I didn’t want it to be triggering for people. I wanted to be discreet for myself but also other people’s feelings. I felt discretion was the best way forward.”

Katherine continued: “I think botox and filler helped me a lot because I don’t actually get much Botox at all, but because I have joked about it a lot in Roast Battle or with Jimmy Carr it has become a funny punchline to say I have had loads of plastic surgery.

“So any time I gain weight or look a little bit different, people assume I have had work done to my face. So I didn't hide it. I was out, I was filming, I was working ,it’s just people assumed I had work done to my face for some reason and I didn't correct them.”
