John Barrowman defends exposing himself on Doctor Who set as ‘tomfoolery’

John Barrowman has defended exposing himself on the set of Doctor Who.

The 54-year-old actor appeared on Good Morning Britain, where he was asked by presenter Richard Madeley about his feelings regarding his supposed cancellation.

The All Star Musicals host faced criticism after it emerged that he had exposed himself on set of the BBC sci-fi series.

Questioned about his response to the backlash on the ITV programme, John criticised cancel culture and said that his actions did not warrant sexual harassment and were instead "tomfoolery".

John said: "I think the public understand that it was tomfoolery and it was a joke and silliness and wasn't sexual harassment.

"And also you say that it was my party trick but everybody who was there on set and part of the fun all enjoyed and laughed at the silliness that went on.

"We had a great time."

Claiming a certain tabloid had "exaggerated what really happened", he added: "They've tried to strip my career over 35 years that I've worked very hard with and have had a lot of fun in and have been very open with all of the silliness that has went on.

"All the stories are nothing new.

"They've been out there for years and I've written about them in my autobiography."

Later in the interview, John compared cancel culture to "hyenas" and also alleged it had "gone way too far".

Revealing the impact the events took on him and his loved ones, John said: "It was very traumatic and upsetting for me and my family, companies believed what was said on Twitter instead of people talking to me.

"I was not sleeping. I was so worried about what people were going to say. We need to learn to forgive, it was a different time now. I wouldn't do that now as times are different.

"If I told all the secrets of the entertainment industry I could write a huge book."

In the wake of the controversy, John issued an apology.

He was later dropped from the Dancing on Ice panel and replaced by Oti Mabuse.
