James Arthur thinks Louis Tomlinson is "like a breath of fresh air" on The X Factor

James Arthur is full of praise for new The X Factor judge Louis Tomlinson.

The singer, who won series 9 of the show back in 2012, revealed how he thinks the former One Direction star has been doing as a judge sitting alongside Simon Cowell, Robbie Williams and Ayda Field on the currently airing series 15.

“I think Louis Tomlinson especially has been a breath of fresh air because he’s not about the puns and the showbiz one-liners, he’s genuinely saying I don’t think this is great for a technical reason,” he told Metro of his judging style.

James went on to add that he’s enjoyed this series more than other years because of the currently judging line-up.

“I’ve actually enjoyed this year, maybe more than previous years because I like to see the judges giving unpopular criticism sometimes. Actual critique,” he said, adding that he’s not such a fan of the puns and one-liners that can come with sitting on the judges table.

But could we ever expect to see James sitting on the panel himself if Simon decides to have another shuffle? It sounds like it’s definitely a possibility.

When asked if he’d make the jump from contestant to judge like Louis, he said: “I would absolutely love to do it, whether it’s on the UK X Factor or another show, I would love to do that one time.

“I don’t know if I’d be popular though because if I’m not moved by something, I’m not going to pretend. I’d be along the same lines as Louis in terms of the sort of feedback I’d give.”

He added: “Robbie, Simon and Ayda are good this year, they’re following suit. I think Simon always gives slightly unpopular opinion.”

The X Factor continues tonight (November 3) with Fright Night on ITV at 8.35pm.
