Guto performed the gesture as a mark of solidarity against racism in the wake of racist online comments being made towards some footballers following England’s loss at the Euro 2020 final match on Sunday. GB News released a statement on Thursday condemning the act and insisting the broadcaster doesn’t have a stance on taking the knee. The statement deemed Guto’s actions “an unacceptable breach of standards.”

It’s now believed Director John has resigned over the backlash but no official confirmation has been given.

According to The Guardian, John made the decision due to mounting pressure to favour ‘culture war’ topics. has contacted GB News for comment.

Thursday’s statement on Twitter by GN News read: “GB News’ tweet on Thursday read: “GB News stands four square against racism in all its forms. We do not have a company line on taking the knee,” they wrote.

“Some of our guests have been in favour, some against. All are anti-racist. We have editorial standards that all GB News journalists uphold.”
