Dani Dyer panics as she's told it's 'very bad luck' to do everyday chore on New Year's Day | The Sun

LOVE Island star Dani Dyer was in a panic today after tackling a household chore it's thought to be bad luck to do on New Year's Day.

The 26-year-old, who is dating West Ham's Jarrod Bowen, appealed to followers – admitting she is "very, very superstitious".

She explained she'd just washed her towels – before seeing on TikTok you shouldn't do laundry on New Year's Day.

According to a bizarre piece of folklore, washing belongings on the first day of the year could lead to 'washing a loved one away'.

Some also believe whatever a person does on the first day of the year will be reflective of the next 12 months – so tiresome work is best avoided.

Needless to say it has no grounding in reality – but Dani was so worried, she mentioned it to fans.

The star wrote: "Happy new year everyone… Very very superstitious over here but I see this all over TikTok you shouldn't do your laundry on New Year's Day for bad luck reasons?

"Is this true? I washed all my towels last night, wanted to get them out today."

If the former Love Island star was hoping for reassurance, she didn't get it, with many telling her they knew all about the superstition.

One said in the replies to her message: "Yes!! U will wash someone out the family! Well that's what my nan used to say."

Another wrote: "Bad luck! I have never done washing new years day. I'm very superstitious too!"

Several other followers urged her to wait for tomorrow, while a third said: "Apparently it washes away your luck for the year."

The new year is something of a boom time for superstitions among those who follow them.

Some believe that you should not do any cleaning – including dusting or hoovering – at the turn of the year.

That's because they claim that it could see the good fortune and luck of the entire family swept away.

Others insist that you should not have empty pockets on New Year’s Eve, because it's a sign of low income during the coming year.

Dani, who is the daughter of actor and EastEnders favourite Danny Dyer, shot to fame on Love Island in 2019.
