Coronation Street spoilers: Maria and Gary Windass get closer after Dr Ali DUMPS her

Maria Connor and Gary Windass grow closer in Coronation Street next week after the hair stylist is dumped by Dr Ali Neeson.

Ali – who’s played by James Burrows in the ITV soap – calls time on his relationship with Maria after a close call while he’s looking after her son Liam.

Still taking prescription drugs, Ali falls asleep while in the flat with Liam accidentally leaving the oven on and causing the smoke alarm to go off.

And angry Maria – Samia Longchambon – lashes out but when she tries to apologise later, Ali is having none of it and tells her it’s over.

Maria heads to the Rovers to drown her sorrows where she ends up having an altercation with Michelle Connor.

Knocking back the booze, Maria tells Michelle that she has terrible parenting skills as both of her sons are a disaster.

Gary steps in and calms a tipsy Maria down.

Later, Ali watches jealously as Gary – Mikey North – flirts with Maria in Victoria Garden.

The Sun Online exclusively revealed last month that cobbles villain Gary would steal Maria away from drug addict Ali and that Ali’s life would be in danger from the rogue builder.

A source revealed: "Maria's run of back luck with men is going to continue in explosive style this autumn.

"After a few years on her own and a string of awful dates she's on the hunt for love.

"Gary isn't exactly someone on her radar but stranger things have happened and the pair begin to grow closer."

But the path of soap love does not run smoothly and soon Gary, still guilt-ridden over Rana's death and his murder of Rick Neelan begins to doubt himself.

The insider added: "Gary will start to question why Maria would be with him instead of a doctor like Ali.

"He starts to get jealous of Ali still being around Maria and it will be a struggle for him to keep his feelings in check.

"Having killed two people already, how far will Gary go to keep Maria to himself and should Ali be worried?"
