Celebrity Island's Pete Wicks and Bear Grylls clash over pig-gate during tense finale

Pete Wicks finally had it out with Celebrity Island presenter Bear Grylls over the infamous pig-gate during the show’s intense series finale.

During Tuesday’s (October 9) special, Bear finally got his chance to confront newly-converted Pescatarian Pete about passionately lobbying his near-starving campers not to eat a pig that died while wandering into their camp.

Bear initially put the question to the other campers, asking them: “What happens when you’re not getting fish? What happens when you’re getting weaker? At what level do you say, ‘I really respect Pete, but we need energy to travel and move’?”

“At the end of the day, I put a lot of pressure on myself to provide nonstop throughout the time I was here,” Pete interrupted. “Whether it was trying to find yucca, which we did.”

Bear wasn’t buying his excuses, firing back: “But the thing is you didn’t find yucca. You found a tiny little bit of yucca. I know this island well, and it is jammed with yucca. You had enough yucca within 200 metres of here to feed you fried meals all day, every day.

“But the truth is you didn’t do it ’cause you didn’t have the energy. And the truth is you didn’t have the energy ’cause you weren’t eating.”

As the debate about ‘Colin the Pig’ raged on, the TOWIE star said that he was willing to “take responsibility” for depriving the camp of food, in order to give the animal his dignity.

“It was a bit of a win personally, for me,” he insisted. “It was a little mission of mine. But everyone else could have told me to sod off and gone and [ate the pig].

“It was just this pig, with his floppy ears and his little tail wagging down the beach. My stomach sank instantly. I thought, ‘They’re gonna wanna kill it’.

“The fact that Colin [the pig] was a beautiful soul in a pig’s body, made it a lot easier for me to convince other people not to eat him. I did think to myself, ‘I’ve named it, you can’t eat it’.”

Pete even challenged Bear by questioning if he’d be expected to eat one of his fellow human campers if they had died during filming of Celebrity Island.

“He’s part of the camp now,” Pete said of the pig. ” I wouldn’t eat Eric [Roberts] if he died, so why should we eat Colin?

“If they made the decision to eat the pig, I’d have left. It was a horrible time The hardest part of the island for me.”

Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls aired on Channel 4.
