Carol Kirkwood spills on ‘unexpected’ romance with fiancé ahead of their wedding

Carol Kirkwood gave fans a rare insight into her relationship with her fiancé Steve Randall ahead of their upcoming wedding.

The BBC Breakfast star – who was previously married to cricket player Jimmy Kirkwood between 1990 and 2008 – got engaged in May last year after finding her “perfect” beau.

The 61-year-old meteorologist normally keeps her life away from the cameras out of the limelight, but the TV presenter has opened up about her relationship as she prepares for her nuptials next year.

Speaking to Closer magazine, the broadcaster discussed her “handsome” husband-to-be as she revealed how the loved-up couple “unexpectedly” got together.

The BBC favourite described how she was feeling “happy and healthy” after she said ‘I Do’ to the 48-year-old former police officer.

She told the publication that she wasn’t expecting to get into a relationship when she and Steve got together.

Carol explained: “We were friends before we became romantically involved so we knew each other quite well before we started dating.

“That was nice because it just kind of happened. Neither of us were looking for romance and there it was, it just evolves. It’s so lovely.

“Who’d have thought that at this ripe old age I'd be getting married again? I certainly didn’t!”

Carol also gushed about having “so much to look forward to in the next 20 years” as she continues to plan her second wedding.

She went on: “My fiancé is very handsome, he’s very kind and caring and he makes me laugh. Steve’s a good cook too. He's all I could ever want. In my eyes, he’s perfect.”

The weather reporter and her fiancé first started dating back in 2021, with the man in uniform popping the question just one year later last spring.

Shortly after she accepted his proposal, the loved-up star told her fellow presenters Sally Nugent and Jon Kay all about the engagement on BBC Breakfast.

She announced at the time: “We got engaged when we were on holiday, so it’s lovely news and we’re both thrilled. Thank you!”
