VAL Kilmer smiled as he walked the red carpet in San Diego yesterday after overcoming a two year battle with throat cancer.
The 59-year-old actor, who underwent a trachea procedure four years ago, looked happy and healthy as he attended a screening of Cinema Twain, wearing a black neckerchief, which covered his breathing apparatus.
The Top Gun star smiled for cameras as he arrived to the Theatre Box and Sugar Factory donning a denim shirt and white jeans.
He wrapped up for the occasion in a navy cardigan and complemented his casual look with a pair of neon yellow trainers.
Val underwent a procedure on his trachea four years ago which reduced his "voice to a rasp and rendered him short of breath".
In 2015, he was first pictured with what appeared to be a tracheostomy tube around his neck as he visited a grocery store in Malibu.
He admitted in April 2017 that he had cancer, after previously publicly denying it, but claimed in a Q&A he had a "healing" that left him cured.
After coming clean on Reddit about the diagnosis, Val returned to talk to fans again a week later and thanked fans for their support, saying he was "grateful for all the prayers and good thoughts from around the world".
In a series of responses, Val added: "Many, many people have been healed by prayer throughout recorded history. And many, many people have died by whatever was modern medicine."
He added: "I have seen people turn down love. I have turned it down myself when I was younger. I hope I never turn it down again."
Candidly talking about his devout religious stance and how it helped him through his illness, Val then added: "Sometimes people are surprisingly mean about this sort of talk.
"Maybe they mix it up in their minds with extremists, people screaming with signs in front of Planned Parenthood or something.
"That's not my sense of Christianity. Or most people's, regardless of their religion. Any more than a Muslim identified themselves with the madness of a suicide bomber spreading fear in the name of Allah."
The actor had previously denied he had cancer after Michael Douglas, 74, revealed in a chat with Jonathan Ross in 2017 that Val was "dealing with exactly what I had" and "things didn't look good for him".
Val later revealed that following Michael's announcement, he had sent a letter of apology.
He wrote online: "Michael Douglas wrote me a nice note apologising for suggesting to the press overseas, I 'wasn't doing too well…' and was grateful to hear I am doing well. He's a classy guy."
Meanwhile, the Heat actor is set to join Tom Cruise, 56, for Top Gun sequel and reprise his role as Tom 'Iceman' Kazansky.
