Bodyguard's Keeley Hawes snubbed by National TV Awards as co-star Richard Madden gets nomination

While Richard Madden got a nod in the Drama Performance category when nominations were revealed yesterday, co-star Keeley Hawes is nowhere to be seen.

The gongs, voted for by the  public, have the Scot actor up against Michelle Keegan for Our Girl,  Peaky Blinders’ Cillian Murphy, Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer and Doctor Who’s  Jodie Whittaker.

And Keeley, who was pivotal in the BBC1 series as tragic Home Secretary Julia Montague, isn’t the only drama snub.

Another big miss is ITV series Liar, and its leads Ioan Gruffudd and Joanne Froggatt.

Dermot tips Holly for a gong

OF all the omissions in the nominations, the biggest comes in the TV Presenter category, and it is the man who is hosting the entire awards ceremony – Dermot O’Leary.

I revealed yesterday that viewers have put forward eternal winners Ant and Dec as well as Bradley Walsh, Graham Norton, Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, instead.

Chatting at the launch event at the V&A Museum in Dundee yesterday about the shortist, Dermot, said: “What can I say? If you’re not on it, you’re not on it.

“I’ve not been on it for a couple of years now.  That’s the thing.

“When you are on the shortlist you do forget you’re on the shortlist and then the award comes up and you’re like, ‘Oh God, s**t this is my award’ . . .  and then they give it to Ant and Dec.”

The Geordie duo have won the award for 17 years in a row.

But Holly, who replaced Ant on ITV’s I’m A Celeb last year, could end that.

Dermot said: “She did so well on I’m A Celebrity and she deserves it.”

Place your bets now . . .

Must Watch

WHAT? Silent Witness, BBC1, 9pm.
WHY? The forensic crime drama starring Emilia Fox as pathologist Dr Nikki Alexander returns with a two-part tale about a transgender man who is attacked.

Amazing Feets of Cold duo

Ahead of the ITV comedy drama’s return on Monday, Fay Ripley said Simon Cowell once offered her a record deal after he saw her play a singer  in mini- series I Saw You  in 2002.

Fay, who plays fun-loving mum Jenny Gifford in Cold Feet, told the Radio Times: “I didn’t want to be like Robson And Jerome and I’m not that good a singer so I said ‘No’.”

John Thomson, who plays Jenny’s husband Pete, auditioned to voice Shrek in the 2001 movie.

He said: “They got Mike Myers. They were never going to say, ‘Featuring Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy and introducing John Thomson.’”

Their loss, John.

Biz Bit

THE cast of Netflix comedy drama Sex Education, which is available from Friday and stars Gillian Anderson, have said they had a dedicated “intimacy director” to choreograph all their saucy scenes.

SOAP BOX

MARLON is on a mission in EMMERDALE, while Sam makes a gruesome find and Debbie receives a rather  unsettling gift.

In EASTENDERS, Tiffany feels uneasy with Evie’s flirtatious behaviour, while Karen gives Bernadette a makeover . . .  but things do not go to plan and the bathroom gets destroyed in the process.

Elsewhere, Max feels stressed about his plans for Abi’s birthday party so Rainie, feeling shut out, offers to help. Linda tries to reassure Mick, convinced his time in prison is still taking its toll.

Meanwhile, in NEIGHBOURS, Amy sends Gary’s criminal boss packing when he shows up, but tells Gary that she cannot forgive him for  breaking her trust.  Xanthe heads off to Toowoomba.
