'Big Sky': The Gross Thing Grace Convinces Danielle and Jerry To Go Along With

ABC’s new series Big Sky centers around two missing girls that were abducted by a long-haul trucker. One of the girls makes an attempt to escape, but it doesn’t work out how she had hoped. Now injured, Grace (Jade Pettyjohn) and her sister, Danielle (Natalie Alyn Lind) are still being held captive along with Jerry (Jesse James Keitel), who was taken right before them.

This week, Grace convinces Danielle and Jerry to go along with something pretty gross in an attempt to save her life.

Private detectives start the search for the missing sisters

Danielle’s boyfriend, Justin (Gage Marsh), gets his private investigator parents involved in looking for the sisters, Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick) and Cody Hoyt (Ryan Phillippe). Together along with Cody’s private investigator partner, Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury), they search for the missing girls. They soon learn that they aren’t the first to go missing in the area.

Cody gets too close to uncovering who’s behind the abductions, and a corrupt a state trooper named Rick Legarski (John Carroll Lynch) murders him. Rick and the truck driver, Ronald Pergman (Brian Geraghty), are involved in a sex trafficking ring.

Jenny and Cassie are now searching for Cody as well, since they don’t know what happened. They work leads, and Jenny even goes undercover this week in episode 4. When they put a tracker on Rick’s car, they head to an abandoned state building for the Bureau of Land Management where Grace, Danielle, and Jerry are being held captive. But they still haven’t managed to find them, since they are being held underground.

Grace escapes, but Rick seriously injures her

In episode 3, after getting free of her chains, Grace manages to escape after sliding through a loose metal side paneling in the trailer attachment they are being held in. However, they need the strength of all three to open it wide enough, and Danielle and Jerry are left inside. Grace gets out through a drainage system that collapses while she’s inside, but somehow she manages to get free into the wilderness.

Rick catches up to her as she’s enlisting a fisherman for help, and he shoots him with an arrow, killing him. Grace tries to get away from Rick, suspicious from the start, and even throws a fishing hook into his cheek, but he just shoots her with an arrow twice in the leg. He breaks the arrow off and pulls it out of her leg, taking her back where she was previously being held.

The gross thing Grace convinces Danielle and Jerry to go along with

In the most recent episode, Grace is in severe pain from her wounds and in desperate need of medical attention. She already has an infection, causing her to have a fever. They find a package of old rotting food with maggots on it, and Grace gets an idea.

“This really can’t be a good idea,” Danielle says.

“It’s my only idea,” Grace tells them. “It’s not like we have a lot of choices here.” She adds, “Just do it. I’m ready.”

Apparently Grace wants them to put the maggots into her wound. “This does not seem like something that should work,” Jerry insists. But Grace says, “It can. Maggots secrete enzymes that target dead tissue.” She says it’s something she learned on YouTube.

“They’re gonna eat you?” Danielle asks her sister. “Just the bad stuff,” Grace insists.

Grace brings up another point about putting the maggots in her wound, and how it might work to their advantage. “Remember the plan is to traffic us,” she reminds them. “We’ve gotta look like marketable goods. And with the maggots on the wound, it’s gonna make it look gnarly. They’re going to freak out, right? They’re going to have to give me antibiotics, or hose me down or something, but either way, it’s going to buy us time. And maybe I can get another way out.”

Grace tells them she needs them to “help sell it.” She tells her sister that if the “infection spreads” she will lose her leg. Danielle gives her approval of the plan with a nod of her head, and Jerry puts some maggots into Grace’s wound.

They all do their best to sell the situation, including Grace looking even worse than before and Danielle telling Ronald that Grace is “dying.”

“She’s going downhill,” Jerry insists as Ronald takes a look at the wound. Danielle tells him that she needs a doctor. He puts hydrogen peroxide on the wound, making Grace scream in pain, and he gives her medicine for her fever. Danielle tries to manipulate him, insisting he has “a good heart.” But it isn’t helping their cause, and it just irritates him and he threatens them. Grace throws up while Ronald is there, and he leaves with Danielle and Jerry pleading for him to help.

Rick comes back later with antibiotics, and he stabs Grace with a needle hard when she insults him. In previews for the next episode, Jenny and Cassie will finally find the underground makeshift cell where they were being held, but it’s unclear if they’re still there or if they’ve been moved. Will Grace be OK? We’ll have to see what happens as time goes on.
