Sky Q has finally got the rival many have been waiting for. Virgin Media’s new TV 360 platform was announced last month and is a major upgrade over what the firm currently offers its telly-subscribing customers. Now it seems Virgin is ready to unleash this way of watching telly into homes with confirmation that you can order TV 360 from today. Virgin says that all new customers taking a TV and broadband bundle will get Virgin TV 360 included as standard.

If you happen to subscribe to the firm’s most premium Ultimate Oomph bundle then you can also upgrade to TV 360 for free.

Sadly, anyone already on a standard TV and broadband bundle will have to wait until their contract ends before they can make the switch.

So, why is this such a big update and what’s new from Virgin Media and TV 360?

There’s plenty of tasty telly treats with TV 360 including an improved users interface which should make it much easier to find the shows you want to watch. Family profiles can be set which allowing each member of the home to be served up with a daily dose of content and personalised recommendations.

Virgin Media announce the release of TV 360 service

Virgin is also bundling a new voice-powered remote control with TV 360 which can be used to find shows and movies, open apps, pause, skip forward or back and breeze around content more effortlessly.

That’s all good news but perhaps the feature Virgin users will be most excited about are the new Mini boxes.

These additional devices can be added to two extra rooms in your home and offer live TV, on-demand shows and all of your recordings without needing wires trailed up your stairs.

You can even use these Mini devices to set recordings and, unlike Sky’s Q service, Virgin has made sure these boxes are 4K Ultra HD compatible bringing pin-sharp content to all of your TVs.

Other features worth a mention include an improved TV Go app and the ability to start live TV from the beginning of a programme via something called “Startover”.

Speaking about the upgrade, David Bouchier, Chief TV & Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media, said: “Virgin TV 360 is our most impressive TV service to date, providing one of the most complete and comprehensive viewing experiences available in the UK. Backed up by our ultrafast broadband, our new service allows TV lovers to watch all of their favourite channels, apps and on-demand content in one place or on the move. This really is game-changing TV and we know our customers will love it.”
