Better Call Saul just brought back another key Breaking Bad character

Better Call Saul loves to slip in a Breaking Bad cameo from time to time, and the show’s latest callback was pretty exciting.

This week’s episode, entitled ‘Something Beautiful’, features a welcome appearance from none other than Gale Boetticher — the friendly chemist played by David Costabile (Lincoln).

Gale’s cameo was teased prior to season four’s premiere, though the meth doctor only features briefly in this part of the story.

Appearing in a single scene, he complains to Gus Fring about the poor quality of some drugs he’s been testing.

He also sings a periodic table parody of Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General’ — which is delightful in so many ways.

Welcome back, Gale!

In other Heisenberg-shaped news, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan recently announced his desire for Jesse Pinkman and Walter White cameos in the spin-off series.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said: “I desperately want to see both of them on Better Call Saul. Peter [Gould] wants it, the writers do, the actors do.

“It wouldn’t feel as satisfying if it was just a cameo or an Alfred Hitchcock walkthrough,” he elaborated. “I think we’ve waited long enough. We damn well better have a good reason for them to show up. I just hope we figure it out because I’ve got to hear, ‘Yeah, bitch!’ one more time.”

Gilligan was appearing as part of a 10 year anniversary reunion, where he and members of the cast discussed the legacy and future of the series.

Aaron Paul, who played Jesse, responded to Gilligan’s cameo hopes: “If Vince decided to put Jesse in Better Call Saul, it’s going to be for a reason, and that reason’s going to be very satisfying for me.

“I trust in Vince. I don’t think he would just do that to satisfy the fans. It would have a purpose, and whether or not he decides to find that purpose or searches for the purpose, I don’t know.

“But if he does find that purpose, I’m happy to jump on board.”

Better Call Saul season 4 airs weekly on Netflix.
