Barbara Windsor's husband Scott Mitchell tells Chris Evans life can be 'really difficult' as her dementia takes hold

BARBARA Windsor's husband Scott Mitchell has told Chris Evans' Virgin Radio show how life can be "really difficult" as her dementia takes hold.

The 56-year-old explained: "The evenings get really difficult for us. That's the thing about Alzheimer's.

"You tend to get the confusion coming in a lot more during the evenings."

He added: "It's very important to know that there's still sides to Barbara which are such fun.

"We sit and we have such fantastic conversations."

Scott was on Virgin Radio to talk about Barbara's Revolutionaries, a team of EastEnders stars and celebs running the London Marathon in her name.

Adam Woodyatt, Tanya Franks, Natalie Cassidy, Kellie Shirley, Jake Wood and Emma Barton are among Barbara's former co-stars running to raise money for Alzheimer's charities.

The 81-year-old, who ruled Albert Square as no-nonsense publican Peggy Mitchell, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2014.

Chris, 53, is also a part of the team and Scott told him: "She's aware that you're very kindly one of Barbara's Revolutionaries.

"She just thinks that's amazing and sends lots and lots of love."

The DJ replied: "She's very much aware of what's going on and that's the most important thing."

Scott insisted: "Yes she is. She's very excited. Unfortunately she's not going to be there at the finishing line.

"Just had to make that decision. From what I've been told it's complete organised chaos with 300 people a minute coming across the finishing line."

He added that it would have been "overwhelming" but said she would be watching on TV at home.

Barbara's Revolutionaries have so far raised a staggering £91,400 for charity – including £5,000 donated by Elton John and Davish Furnish.
