Australian actor Matt Passmore lands role in new US drama pilot

Aussie actor in island drama

Australian actor Matt Passmore has landed a lead role in a new US drama pilot set in the Bermuda Triangle. With a plot line vaguely reminiscent of the 1970s series The Fantastic Journey, the series sees a family stranded on an uncharted island in the Bermuda Triangle after a storm sends their boat through a dimensional rift. The series will also star former Under the Dome star Mike Vogel as David Roman, the father of the family who become stranded; Passmore will play Liam, described as "a dark, rash and complicated member of the land's ruling family". The series, titled Triangle, is written by Jon Feldman and Sonny Postiglione and the pilot will be directed by McG.

Second season for The Conners

The US network ABC has renewed The Conners, the comedy series born out of the ashes of its reboot of Roseanne, for a second season. The show's key cast – John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman – will all return. Despite its baptism of fire, created in the wake of Roseanne Barr's spectacular Twitter meltdown and the subsequent cancellation of Roseanne, The Conners has managed to draw a weekly audience of around 7.5 million viewers, certainly enough to keep it alive for a second go around. ABC's head of entertainment, Karey Burke, praised the series for its "willingness to tackle contemporary issues with humour and heart".

Third Donovan for Neighbours

The long-running Ten Network soap Neighbours has recruited actress Jemma Donovan, a signing that gives the show the singular note in soap-opera history of having hired three generations of actors from the one family. Donovan's father is actor Jason Donovan, who played the show's teen heartthrob Scott Robinson in the 1980s, and her grandfather is actor Terence Donovan, who played one of the Ramsay Street dads, Doug Willis, in the 1990s. Donovan will be playing a member of the Robinson family, Harlow Robinson. Father Jason said it was his daughter's moment: "There are so many great memories for me looking back … I'm sure Jemma will also embrace the experience and honour the past."

Sex and the City sequel tipped

Paramount Television is developing a sequel to the long-running, iconic HBO romantic comedy Sex and the City. The proposed series is based on the book Is There Still Sex in the City? by Sex and the City author and co-creator Candace Bushnell. The book promises to explore "the love and dating habits of middle-aged men and women as they continue to navigate the ever-modernising world of relationships in New York City". The book will not be published until August this year, but the television adaptation is already in the works. Bushnell will write the pilot script. Neither Bushnell nor Paramount have revealed whether any original Sex and the City characters will return for the sequel.

Doco to close GoT series

HBO will close the final season of its global hit fantasy series Game of Thrones with a documentary on the series and its promised thrilling conclusion that was filmed on location during the final days of the series. Game of Thrones: The Last Watch saw British documentarian Jeanie Finlay on set for the final six weeks of filming, following the cast and crew as they dealt with harsh weather and the high emotion of closing out one of the most successful TV series of all time. The documentary "delves deep into the mud and blood to reveal the tears and triumphs", Finlay said. The Last Watch was co-executive produced by the Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff.
