Are These the Reasons Meghan Markle and Prince Charles Get Along So Well? Their Father/Daughter Connection Explained

Some of us don’t have the most loving and comfortable relationships with our in-laws. Luckily, Duchess Meghan Markle doesn’t have that issue. The former actress left behind her home and career when she moved across the pond alone to marry Prince Harry and begin her life in the spotlight as a member of the British Royal Family. Luckily, the Windsor family welcomed her with open arms. Though Prince Harry’s older brother and sister-in-law, Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton were eager to welcome Markle into the fold, the mother-to-be really connected with her father-in-law Prince Charles and his wife, Duchess Camilla Parker Bowles.

In fact, the Duchess of Sussex and her new father-in-law have already formed a father/daughter bond.

Markle’s father Thomas Markle, half-sister, Samantha Markle, and half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr. have tried to cause a bit of drama for the new royal. Luckily, the duchess has done nothing but handle it all with grace, and as a result, Prince Charles has become completely endeared to her. He walked her down the aisle at her wedding when her own father was MIA and he gave her the nickname, Tungsten which describes a tough and unbending metal.

In the months after her wedding, the pair have gotten even closer, even texting each other TMZ links of the Markle family’s latest antics. Royal author Angela Levin explained, “There have been so many traumas and crises within the personal life of the royal family, from the Duke of Windsor onwards. And many royal divorces. That’s why the Duchess of Sussex’s troubled family background has endeared her to Charles even more.’”

Bonding over family dysfunction isn’t the only reason why Markle and Prince Charles are super tight. They also share a slew of the same interest. Levin revealed. “It’s not just dysfunctional families that unite Charles and Meghan. They have bonded over art, history, and culture. Meghan is particularly keen to learn about earlier royals and the artists who have painted them. The prince believes she is “incredibly smart” and, having been trained by the Hollywood machine, is uniquely equipped to cope with the endlessly scrutinized life of a royal.”

Both Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall have also gone out of their way to make sure that Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland feels welcomed into the royal fold. Now that her daughter is expecting her first child, Ragland has been spending a lot more time in the U.K. to be by the duchess’ side. In fact, Queen Elizabeth just broke royal tradition and invited Ragland to spend the Christmas holidays at Sandringham in Norfolk with the royal family.

A royal source told Vanity Fair, “The Queen was very impressed by Mrs. Ragland when they met. The Queen knows that Meghan’s family situation is complicated and that the easiest way for Meghan and Harry to be together and with Doria, which is what they want, is for them all to join her at Sandringham where there is plenty of space. It’s not the norm, but then things seem to have changed quite a lot recently.”
