All Creatures Great and Small’s Carmody ‘unaware’ of Tristan’s absence

All Creatures Great and Small season 4 trailer

All Creatures Great and Small’s newcomer Richard Carmody actor James Anthony-Rose claims his character is “unaware” of Tristan Farnon’s (played by Callum Woodhouse) departure despite his huge impact on Skeldale.

Tristan was called up to fight in the war during the 2022 Christmas Special and left a hole in the lives of Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West), Mrs Hall (Anna Madely), Helen Herriot (Rachel Shenton), and James Herriot (Nicholas Ralph).

Needing the extra help, student vet Carmody arrives and doesn’t notice the impact his arrival has and the exit of Tristan.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press on whether Carmody notices Tristan’s absence, James said: “No, he’s not.

“He’s unaware of a lot of things around him never mind things that have come and people that have gone before him.

“So no there was no sense of him stepping into those shoes, he is very much his own person coming in.

“That was helpful for me coming in and not having to live up to any expectation, he is a whole new figure.”

James also touched on Carmody’s relationship with James Herriot and added: “There is a bit of conflict between the two of them because obviously, James was in a similar position at the start of his career coming to Darrowby.

“Being taken in by Siegfried and being put through his paces, but of course, James has that human connection with people that Carmody doesn’t naturally have.
