Jenny Slatten has been waiting to marry her Indian boyfriend, Sumit Singh, for years. But the 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way star received another disappointing blow on the latest episode. After getting a dramatic threat from his mom, Sumit told Jenny he couldn’t get married.
Jenny had a feeling this might happen
On an earlier episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, the couple consulted a marriage attorney who informed them of a quick and easy procedure to get legally married. But just as Jenny began making wedding plans, Sumit told her he needed to talk to his parents and try to get their blessing beforehand.
“No,” Jenny replied. “If you go talk to your parents first, they’re going to stop you, and you’re not going to marry me. When your parents are actually in front of you, you might change your mind.”
“Sumit’s parents will never give him their blessing to get married to me,” she then told cameras. “It’s not going to happen. And I don’t understand why Sumit’s trying to stall the marriage.”
The ’90 Day Fiancé’ star stood by her man
As seen in the last two seasons of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Sumit has disappointed Jenny numerous times during their nine-year relationship. Not only did he catfish her early on, but he also caved into his parents’ pressure and married an Indian woman that they picked for him.
Sumit didn’t tell Jenny about his wife for years. And it wasn’t until she moved to India that she found out.
But despite all this, Jenny continued to pursue the relationship. She forgave Sumit for all his past indiscretions. And when talking to E! News this summer, she doubled down on her commitment to him.
“Sumit and I, our relationship has always been Sumit and I,” Jenny said. “If you understand his culture, you’ll understand why what happened to him happened to him, and I understand. I still love him all the same — you need to understand his culture and then you’ll understand.”

In the final episodes of the season, Sumit sat down with his parents and tried to convince them to let him marry Jenny. But when he pushed, and got down on his knees to beg, his mother, Sahna, threatened to “commit suicide.”
Hearing this, Sumit quickly changed his mind about the wedding. He told his parent he wouldn’t get married but would continue living with Jenny.
And while she might not have understood the details of the Hindi-language conversation Sumit was having with his parents, Jenny got the gist of it. And it seemed like she knew this was coming.
“Last year, you know, the same thing happened,” she told 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way producers. “We weren’t able to get married, so I had to go back home. So this is my third time coming back to India. And if I have to go back to the U.S. I’m not coming back to India for a fourth time. If he can’t make it happen after I gave him three times, I think that’s enough.”
