This hotel in Essex makes guests do a Crystal Maze-style challenge at check-in

YOU’VE heard of singing for your supper, but it turns out searching for your sleep is also a thing.

At a boutique hotel in Essex, guests have to complete a puzzle-solving adventure before they check in.

The Clockwork Hotel in Burnham-on-Crouch, which offers exclusive use of the property to groups of guests, has a Crystal Maze-style challenge on arrival.

Customers have to find the keys that will unlock their private hotel, against a ticking clock.

Working as a team, they have to unravel challenges, discover secrets, and investigate the rooms across several floors for clues.

After solving the problem, guests sit down to a three-course meal made by a private chef.

There are 11 king, double and twin bedrooms, sleeping up to 22 people.

Relaxation areas include a living room with a log burner and a cocktail bar, as well as a hot tub and sauna.

In the morning, a breakfast hamper is available to purchase as an extra, with the ingredients to cook a fry up in the hotel kitchen.

A one-night package costs £110pp from Sunday – Thursday or £150pp for Friday or Saturday night.

Meanwhile, one B&B in the US has a hidden room which guests are challenged to find – with a secret reading nook behind the bookcase.

Travel blogger Zanna van Dijk stayed at the Bella Vista Bed and Breakfast Inn in California and shared her discovery.

The luxurious room features a bookcase at the end of the bed, and a book on the third shelf has no pages inside it, but instead has a golden door handle.

Behind the secret bookcase door is a reading room with a floor to ceiling bookcase, armchair and window with views of the surrounding area.
