Out & about
The picture-postcard village of Grasmere is just a 20-minute stroll from your pod. There you’ll find plenty of places to eat and drink, along with author William Wordsworth’s former home. Our pick is The Good Sport pub for a local cider, £4.75 a pint.
Itching to get lost in nature? The Lake District leg of the Coast to Coast Walk is right on your doorstep. You can hike over to the pretty village of Patterdale or, if you’re feeling adventurous, scramble up to Helvellyn Ridge – one of the highest points in the region. A Lake Windermere boat trip is a must-do while you’re in the area.
Head to Bowness, a 20-minute drive, and board Windermere Lake Cruises’ Red Cruise, kick back on the top deck and admire the views, £13.70 for an adult return ticket (Windermere-lakecruises.co.uk). The Drunken Duck Inn in Ambleside is the perfect place to warm up by the fire afterwards.

Grasmere Glamping’s owners Dave, Sally, Jess and Will really have thought of everything, including The Yan – a stylish bistro, headed up by Will, serving locally sourced food. Breakfast is taken seriously here – start the day with a floury bap filled with three Cumberland sausages, £6.95, or creamy berry, nut and honey porridge, £5.95.
It puts your usual Pret to shame. Come dinner time, it’s all about Will’s shepherd’s pie – melt-in-the-mouth Grasmere lamb with moreish chunks of ham and a cheesy mash topping, £16.95.
