Amazon Echo users might like to know about an awesome new feature which has slowly made its way across the globe. First launched in the US, the Whisper Mode is now available on multiple devices in the UK and means that Alexa won’t respond quite so loudly when you ask it a question.
The clever update basically allows you to whisper to Alexa and she’ll respond with at a similar low volume level.
The concept is aimed at not disturbing other people in the house when you need something answering late at night or early in the morning.
If you also want to do a series of things with one whispered command, you can set up a routine that is triggered by a whisper. For example, you can set an alarm, turn off lights and play relaxing music simply by saying, “Alexa, good night.” You can easily create a range of customisable routines using the Alexa app.
Here’s how to set up Whisper mode on Alexa: Open the Alexa app > Go to Settings > Next, click Voice Responses > Then activate Whispered Responses.
This mode should work on most of your smart speakers including the Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show and new Echo Studio.
Along with Whisper Mode now available on more devices, Amazon has also revealed a bunch of new things to ask Alexa.
So, if you have an Echo speaker here’s some fun things to try.
“Alexa, play Classic FM”
“Alexa, open Magic Soul”
“Alexa, how old is Prince Harry?”
“Alexa, what’s on my shopping list?”
“Alexa, how long’s left on my timer?”
“Alexa, what’s playing?”
“Alexa, what’s the weather forecast?”
“Alexa, read me a free audiobook”
“Alexa, resume my audiobook”
“Alexa, tell me a sports joke”
“Alexa, announce breakfast is ready”
Ask Alexa to make announcements on all compatible Echo devices in your household or the Alexa app.
“Alexa, what’s my Flash Briefing?”
Manage your news in the settings of your Alexa app. Open the Alexa app and select from the menu Settings, Flash Briefing. Tap the plus icon to select your favourite Flash Briefing skills and edit the order to customise what content plays first.
“Alexa, what films are playing?”
“Alexa, how’s my commute?”
“Alexa, give me a cottage pie recipe”
“Alexa, do I have any appointments today?”
