BBC Weather, which millions of people use for their forecasts, encountered issues today. People took to social media to complain about their trouble accessing weather forecasts this afternoon, following issues with Android versions. But the issues weren’t confined to the BBC as Android users encountered problems over several other apps.

Is the BBC Weather app still down?

Several people took to Twitter to complain about their experience with the BBC Weather app today.

They encountered an issue with the app displaying their local forecast as “not available” this afternoon.

One user said: “Seems the Android BBC Weather app is not working. Says unable to load your weather.”

Some people have reported experiencing these issues recently, so it is still ongoing for them.

While BBC Weather has not identified any specific issues with its platform, Google has.

The tech giant found an issue with phones caused by Android System WebView.

The system component lets Android apps display web components, and Google’s fix should solve problems some people have experienced with the BBC Weather app.

All they need to do is update the web view to its latest version 89.0.4389.105, and Google Chrome with it.

Both updates are now available on the Google Play Store for Android users.

A Google spokesman said: “We have resolved the issue with WebView that caused some apps on Android to crash for some users.

“Updating Android System WebView and Google Chrome via Google Play should now resolve the issue.”

To download the update, Android users must follow these steps:

  • Open the Play Store app
  • Type Android System WebView into search
  • Select the “update” option
  • Repeat the process for Google Chrome

Should some people find this doesn’t work for them, they can remove another WebView update.

Samsung users may benefit most from this, as the company’s US support recommended doing so.

They need to follow these steps and then restart their phone:

  • Go settings > apps
  • Tap the three dots in the top right corner
  • Show system apps
  • Search for Android System WebView
  • Select Uninstall updates
