WhatsApp has a cool new feature and you probably haven’t spotted it yet

WhatsApp is no stranger to launching exciting new features.

Just last week it added fingerprint recognition for Android users which means messages can’t be viewed until the user has been verified.

When enabled, this useful new security feature will prompt WhatsApp fans to place their fingerprint on the scanner when the app launched to prove it’s really them – and it even sends this prompt if the phone is already unlocked.

That certainly makes things more secure on Android but now it seems another bonus extra has been added to WhatsApp with iPhone owners getting the ability to share Netflix clips directly within the app.

This update hasn’t been officially announced but was spotted by a user and shared with WABetaInfo.

Screenshots clearly show how the update works with the Netflix content easily playable from within the message.

Express.co.uk has downloaded the latest version of WhatsApp on an iPhone and has verified that this new feature does work.

For now, this update is only available in the very latest version of the iOS app and there’s no sign of it on Android but that will hopefully arrive in the future.

It’s also worth noting that you can only share trailers from Netflix so you’ll still need the app on your phone if you want to watch a full episode of a show.

WhatsApp added the ability to view other content, such as YouTube and Instagram videos, within a while ago but this is first Netflix has been given the same treatment.

It’s certainly a nice added bonus and will be a good feature for those who enjoy a nightly binge on a boxset with family and friends.

Sadly, although this movie playback is arriving on WhatsApp there’s still one huge upgrade that’s still missing.

Dark mode has been rumoured for months but there’s still no sign of it arriving on the messaging platform.

Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android both now feature this darker colour scheme and many apps have also joined the party.

However, WhatsApp continues to stay tight-lipped about when it plans to release its own version of this popular feature.
