Warzone Goldflake error breaking game for Xbox players – unless they pay up

Since the launch of Warzone Pacific late last week, excited gamers have been rushing to update their console software so they can log on and enjoy the biggest map update yet to the popular battle royale sim.

The only problem is that a lot of them can't log on.

Some Warzone players on Xbox are being greeted with a 'Goldflake' error message when they first try to log into the game.

The worst part is that one of the only ways to fix it is to fork out for an Xbox Live Gold subscription (or at least sign up to the free trial).

This has left gamers fuming, as Warzone is supposed to be free-to-play.

"Can you please fix the Goldflake error on Warzone [not] everyone can afford Xbox Live [at least] acknowledge the problem," tweeted one gamer.

"Yo fix this Goldflake error on Xbox Activision. I wanted to give Warzone another try but with this error I'm not sure if I'm willing to give it at least a try," said another.

How to fix Warzone Goldflake error and get back onto Pacific

Until the game receives an official patch for the bug, you can only try to DIY it.

The first point of call for any game error is to perform a 'hard reset' of your console. This can be done by turning off the Xbox using the controller, and then unplugging it for 30 seconds before plugging it back in.

If this doesn't work, you might need to go nuclear on it. Some players have claimed that signing up to an Xbox Live Gold subscription fixes the issue, as the bug only affects those without Xbox Live.

To sign up to Xbox Live Gold, head to the Xbox Store online or on your console and hit 'Join Now'. You may be able to get a 14 day trial, after which it will cost £6.99 per month.

Another potential fix has to do with Roblox. Nobody is entirely sure why, but some Warzone gamers are claiming that if they close Warzone, open Roblox and then log back into Warzone, the 'Goldflake' error disappears.

The new Warzone Pacific update coincides with the launch of Call of Duty: Vanguard season one. It adds a much-needed splash of colour to Warzone with a lush tropical map, new challenges, skins, and gamemodes.
