Twitter update makes it even easier for users to tweet at night

Since it launched back in 2016, Dark Mode has been one of Twitter’s most popular features.

Dark Mode transforms the regular blue-and-white version of Twitter into a dark grey-and-blue system, which is much easier on the eyes.

Now, Twitter has launched three new Dark Mode themes for iOS – Dim, Lights Out and Automatic Dark Mode.

‘Dim’ is the current Dark Mode theme, while ‘Lights Out’ is a new pure black colour palette that emits no light.

This new mode should make tweeting in low-light environments much easier.

Finally, Twitter has added a new ‘Automatic Dark Mode’. If this is enabled, the app will automatically switch from light to dark mode, based on your environment.

Bryan Haggerty, Senior Design Manager at Twitter, said: “Giving more people options to personalise their experience on Twitter based on what makes them most comfortable is what the latest update to Dark Mode is all about.

“We worked extensively with our product, design and research teams to make sure that the updated Dark Mode continued to give people the options they already know and love, while adding an additional theme and new capabilities on iOS for them to try.”

To access the new Dark Mode themes, go to Settings, then Display and Sound. There, you can toggle Dark mode on or off, and choose whether you'd prefer Dim or Lights Out. You can also toggle automatic dark mode on and off here.

It remains unclear when, or if, these new Dark Mode themes will be available on the Android version of the Twitter app.
