Teen has cheeky response after Elon Musk offers him $5k to stop tracking his jet

A 19-year-old student has turned his nose up at an offer of free cash from the world's richest man—and asked for even more.

Jack Sweeney, a 19-year-old first-year student at the University of Central Florida, can tell people where Elon Musk's private jet plane is at any given moment via his 'ElonJet' page.

Last week, Musk asked Jack to switch off the feed, offering him $5000 (£3700) to do so

“Can you take this down? It is a security risk,” Musk reportedly said, claiming he wanted to stop 'crazy people' from finding his whereabouts.

However, Sweeney has rejected the offer and cheekily demanded a much higher sum: $50,000 (£37,000).

Sweeney responded: “Any chance to up that to $50k? It would be great support in college and would possibly allow me to get a car maybe even a Model 3.”

Sweeney's automated Twitter feed uses public, but hard-to find data that follows the SpaceX chief’s jet and announces its takeoffs and landings for anyone to find.

The bot tracks a few other “aircraft of interest” as well, but it might not be keeping tabs on the Tesla boss for much longer.

Sweeney even asked for an internship instead of money.

"I hope that you would see my interest because I have been developing this since I was only in high school," he reportedly told Musk.

“Options other than remuneration like an internship would make taking it down a lot easier,” he added.

However, Sweeney has said that he might take it down anyway because of the tool being misused.

"We need to remember to keep our boundaries if we don't it may have to come down or may forcibly be taken down. ElonJet was started to track business moves not to have people ambush Elon at airports," he wrote in a tweet.
