Sky suspends ALL TV and broadband deals: Here’s what it means for you

People considering switching over to Sky have received some bad news. The satellite television firm has just announced that, due to the public health crisis gripping the UK, new customers are no longer able to organise installations of Sky broadband or Sky Q in their homes.

In a post on its website, Sky said: “We’d love people to experience Sky, however, due to COVID-19 we are currently unable to arrange new installation appointments for TV. From next week you will be able to register your interest so we can keep you updated.”

Alongside the post, Sky removed all TV and bundled broadband deals from its website meaning customers are temporarily being prevented from checking the latest offers or bundle discounts available.

Of course, with the health of its employees and customers of utmost importance, it makes sense for Sky to stop engineers visiting home during this health crisis. Openreach, which provides the infrastructure for brands like EE, BT, TalkTalk, Zen, Sky, Giganet and more, has also suspended all new installations.

If you were considering switching to Sky, it’s worth checking back next week to see if new deals have become available as it’s likely you’ll be able to sign up to a waiting list for an installation as soon as things return to normal, which could take as long as six months, according to the one of the most recent coronavirus press briefings.

  • Sky TV announces important news and customers will welcome the changes

Along with the announcement for new customers, Sky has also revealed some changes being put in place for existing customers. Perhaps one of the biggest updates is that those with Sky Sports can now cancel/pause their subscriptions. This is something that is likely to be welcomed by many as the cancellation of most sporting fixtures worldwide has left many Sky Sports customers without access to any of the content they’d typically pay for.

Another boost to Sky customers is news that Sky Go Extra will now be available to all customers for free. This will allow households to have access to Sky TV on three screens at the same time – something the satellite broadcaster usually charges customers extra for.

It’s not just its TV services that are getting a boost as Sky has also announced some added bonus for phone and mobile customers.

This includes free calls to UK landlines at any time of day for all existing Sky Talk customers. This incentive is available from this weekend to the end of April. All Sky Mobile customers will also get a 10GB data boost into their Piggybanks, free of charge. This can be shared across all the SIMs on the account

Sky also says that all call centres and engineers will prioritise the needs of existing customers to ensure their service keeps running smoothly.

“We’re working hard at Sky to make sure we continue to look after our customers. We’re also introducing some things to help make life a little easier for anyone at home trying to work, stay connected to loved ones, or keep the family entertained,” said Stephen van Rooyen, EVP & CEO, Sky UK and Europe.
