Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus review – 5 quirky features we love in the smartphone

Earlier this month, Samsung finally unveiled its Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus smartphones, following months of anticipation.

The launch marks the first time that Samsung has released two size options for a Note smartphone, with the addition of the 6.8-inch Note 10 Plus.

This week, we’ve managed to get our hands on the new larger smartphone, which features a triple lens rear camera, Ultrasonic Fingerprint scanner and of course, the iconic S-Pen.

Here are five quirky features we love in Samsung’s new flagship handset.

1. S-Pen gesture controls

Like the Galaxy Note 9, the S-Pen now has Bluetooth connectivity, allowing the stylus to effectively act as a remote.

However, the S-Pen now also has gesture controls – and they’ll make you feel like a wizard brandishing his wand.

To use gesture controls, hold down the button on the S-Pen and swipe up, down, left, right or rotate the pen in the air.

This allows you to control the screen without even touching it!

As it stands, gesture controls are only compatible with a couple of apps at the moment such as Spotify and the Camera App.

However, hopefully in the near future more apps will add gesture controls so you can continue to channel your inner Harry Potter.

2. AR Doodle feature

Another fun S-Pen feature that’s new in the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus is called AR Doodle.

As the name suggests, the feature allows you to scribble on photos and see your creations come to life.

To activate the feature, open the Camera app, and click the S-Pen out from the bottom of the smartphone.

Open AR Doodle, and your Camera will flip to selfie mode. Whether it’s a fancy hair-do or glasses, scribble away on the screen as you wish.

When you’re happy with your creation, hit record and your smartphone will start filming.

You’ll notice that as you move your face, the scribbles will move with you!

3. Live focus videos

Samsung has expanded its live focus video feature in the Galaxy Note 10 and 10 Plus, giving you access to a range of snazzy effects.

Live Focus Video works on both front and back camera, and allows you to blur the background of images.

There are four effects to choose from – Blur, Big Circle, Colour Point and Glitch.

My personal favourite is Colour Point, which keeps your subject in colour, but makes the background Black and White!

4. Zoom in on audio

One of the quirkiest features in the Note 10 Plus is the Zoom-in mic feature.

As the name suggests, the feature allows you to zoom in on audio as well as on the video itself.

For example, if you were watching a musician playing on the street, you could zoom in on the audio to make sure you can hear the music over the background noise.

5. Super fast charging

The Galaxy Note 10 and 10 Plus are Samsung’s fastest ever charging phones.
