Pixel 4 design confirmed by Google ahead of hardware event next month

Well, now we really have seen everything.

Google turned heads earlier this summer when it published an image of the Pixel 4 case on Twitter in response to a number of high-profile leaks around its design.

And now, it has slapped a humongous image of the Pixel 4 on billboards throughout Times Square in New York City, New York.

Unsurprisingly, the massive ads caught the eyes of a number of Google Pixel fans, who quickly shared pictures of the advertisements online.

Google has confirmed the coral / peach finish that appeared on some of the leaked Pixel 4 demo units that appeared in YouTube videos earlier this month.

The latest promotional material also emphasises the controversial square-design camera bump.

Google first revealed the new look in its Twitter post, revealing that – after years of arguing that its Pixel phones could match every single one of its rival’s new-fangled photography tricks with a single lens and software – it would be moving to a triple-camera system, bringing it on-par with most of its top-tier Android rivals as well as the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Google is widely-tipped to offer an Ultra-Wide camera to squeeze more people into your group shots – as well as entire skyscrapers on your next city break, something that’s nigh impossible with a standard wide-angle shooter. Google already offers Ultra-Wide photography in its front-facing camera set-up on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, which will presumably stick around on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL.

On the back of the smartphone, the new Ultra-Wide camera will be coupled with a Wide-Angle and Telephoto camera.

This new triple set-up will purportedly enable improved Portrait Mode shots and Night Mode, including software tweaks to make it easier to shoot astrophotography.

Sources also claim the Pixel 4 triple-camera is designed to offer lossless zoom.

It’s unclear whether Google will be able to match the likes of the Huawei P30 Pro, which uses a telephoto lens and AI to offer lossless zoom up to 10x.

Thankfully, we don’t have long to wait before we find out.

The advertisements in Times Square promote the next Made By Google event, which will be held on October 15, 2019. That’s slightly in the month than last year, when Google held its annual hardware event on October 9, 2018.

As well as the refreshed Pixel smartphones we’re likely to see new Google Home smart speakers, with some sources pointing to a wall-mounted option with better audio.

Other sources have suggested we’ll see an upgraded Google Wi-Fi mesh router system with support for the Wi-Fi 6 standard. And there’s always a possibility that Google will update its premium PixelBook notebook, which is powered by ChromeOS, or its expansive portfolio of Google Nest smart cameras.

As always, Express.co.uk will have all the news as soon as it’s announced on-stage at the Made By Google event on October 15, so stay tuned.
