Galaxy Watch is Samsung’s wearable series that was last upgraded back in August.
Just days before the grand unveiling of the South Korean tech giant’s new Galaxy Note 10 series, the firm unveiled the Galaxy Watch Active 2.
This is an all-singing, all-dancing wearable that boasts a swathe of health functionality in addition to more traditional smartwatch features such as the ability to view, and interact with, notifications.
The Active 2 will release in the UK this Friday, September 20 – the wearable starts at £269 for its Bluetooth-only variant in a 40 millimetre case size but rises to as high as £419 for those that want a souped up 4G edition of the hardware in a larger 44 millimetre case.
However, before you run out and place your order for Samsung’s newest watch, it might be worth waiting until Huawei has detailed its own forthcoming wearable.
The Shenzhen-based tech powerhouse is holding a hardware event this Thursday, September 19, in the German city of Munich where it will unwrap its Mate 30 Pro flagship.
But it’s not just about smartphones as the vendor’s newest wearable – the Huawei Watch GT 2 – is also set to be unveiled.
Huawei has already confirmed the Watch GT 2 will be revealed in full at its Munich showcase. The firm has posted two videos on Twitter to build anticipation for the product.
One of the clips showed the wearable being used for a number of physical activities including running, rowing and swimming.
This suggests that, just like its predecessor, the Watch GT 2 will be geared towards fitness fanatics.
While Huawei’s videos did not reveal the complete design of the new wearable, it seems reliable tipster Evan Blass has indeed outed its aesthetic in full.
The leaker recently posted numerous alleged images of the device on Twitter – the GT 2 was shown in a number of different styles and colours.
The most prominent of which exhibited the watch with a metal case and strap – its display appeared to be surrounded by minimal bezels.
Other flavours of the GT 2 were displayed in gold, black and silver colours.
In terms of software, it is expected the GT 2 will run a proprietary operating system from Huawei and not Google’s Wear OS.
Last year’s regular Watch GT came pre-installed with the firm’s Lite OS that Express.co.uk found to deliver a fairly basic smartwatch experience.
It’s possible the forthcoming GT 2 will run Huawei’s recently announced HarmonyOS instead though – the new operating system was unveiled back in August and is designed for Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
