Major Freeview boost as Sky confirms new channel coming to your TV for free

If you haven’t got enough to binge on then good news is on its way. Sky has just confirmed to Express.co.uk that it’s bringing a new channel to the Freeview platform and users won’t have to pay a penny to tune in. The feature-filled service, called Sky Mix, will launch on channel 11 on Wednesday, 18 October and offer a swathe of shows and exclusives that have never been seen before on free-to-air television.

Sky says it’s offering this service to give UK homes a taste of what’s on offer via its premium platforms such as Sky Stream and Sky Q.

Content coming to Freeview TVs later this month will include Cobra, Rob & Romesh Vs, A Discovery of Witches and A League of Their Own: Road Trip along with original factual specials such as Liverpool Narcos and Shark with Steve Backshall.

It’s unclear if your TV or set-top box will need a retune come October 18 but if you can’t find Sky Mix on channel 11 then a quick reset should fix it.

Sky Mix now joins Sky Arts, Sky Kids and Sky News which are also all available to view without needing a subscription.

Speaking about the changes, Zai Bennett, Managing Director of Content, Sky UK and Ireland, said: “Sky Mix is the perfect free-to-air home for us to showcase some of our favourite Sky shows that have already been a hit with our customers on Sky and NOW platforms.

“We’re proud to share earlier series of shows like Rob & Romesh Vs, True Detective and A Discovery of Witches as well as showcasing a selection of our Sky Original films from previous years on this brand-new free TV brand.”
