Instagram wants you to stop posting your TikToks on Reels

Just like Netflix has finally decided to take action on its password sharing problem, Instagram is addressing its content-resharing problem.

Instagram this week announced tweaks to its ranking algorithm which will highlight original content above reshared content.

It looks like Insta isn’t happy with its Reels vertical being inundated with content from its chief rival platform — TikTok.

Now users can tag themselves under a category like ‘Photographer’ or ‘Rapper’ and have it show up when they’re tagged in a post.

The new creator-focused changes are to ‘make sure that credit is going to those who deserve it’, said Instagram head Adam Mosseri in a post announcing the changes

‘If you create something from scratch, you should get more credit than if you are resharing something that you found from someone else. We’re going to do more to try and value original content more, particularly compared to reposted content,’

Yes, Instagram does not appreciate it when you share posts from other platforms like TikTok or Twitter.

The changes indicate that Instagram is heavily focusing on promoting original content on the platform.
