Google Maps is undoubtedly the most popular navigation app in the world – the programme is available on desktops in addition to iOS and Android smartphones.
Google Maps is renowned for its innovative feature set that continues to expand thanks to new and consistent updates from the American tech giant.
One of the biggest alternatives to Maps is Waze, a programme initially developed in Israel but was acquired by Google in June of 2013.
Since Google purchased Waze, a number of features from the latter have made its way to the former.
The ability to report collisions or traffic, a speedometer and showcasing the position of speed cameras are all features that originally debuted in Waze but have since released for Google Maps.
While many features from Waze are now present in Google’s own navigation offering, that does not mean the former has stopped innovating in its own right.
In fact, Waze recently announced a new feature that is not currently available on Google Maps or any of its other rivals, giving it a handy advantage.
The Google-owned app has declared it is now able to calculate the estimated costs of tolls within a particular route for fans.
Essentially, Waze will use information provided by users of the app to produce an expected fee for a particular toll depending on the day of the week, hour of the day and more.
However, it is worth noting the app will not display an estimated cost if a particular toll fee varies depending on traffic.
Waze noted the new function is currently available for “20 percent of users” in the US and Canada but will be made available to everyone within these territories by July 22 of this year.
While certainly not a substantial overhaul of the app, the new addition to Waze will surely be incredibly handy for anyone journeying on a route with tolls, assuming they live within the compatible areas listed.
At the moment Google Maps is currently unable to perform this function.
Instead, the software will simply alert a user when a particular route requires them to head through a toll.
However, no figures for pricing will be given.
It is currently unclear when or if the new Waze feature will arrive for UK fans.
