Golden Joystick awards ‘best game ever’ – with mega-hard Dark Souls topping list

It's time to call it quits in the battle to decide the best game ever. The Golden Joystick awards have spoken, and selected the Ultimate Game of All Time.

The answer may surprise fans of classic games like Zelda or Mario: the winner is FromSoftware's Dark Souls.

The game was voted for by gamers in a public survey, and ended up edging out some iconic competition.

"We'll be talking about Dark Souls in another 10 years, and another 10 years after that again. In Dark Souls, we're told that history repeats itself. But in reality, there will likely never be a game quite like it again," said TechRadar's Joe Donnelly.

The hugely influential Dark Souls spawned an entire genre of 'Souls-like' games, including Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and even the more recent Assassin's Creed games.
