IFTTT, or If this, Then That and Gmail will no longer be compatible from next week.
Google is rolling out new API restrictions net week which could hit IFTTT users hard.
The change means most of IFTTT’s features will be blocked on Gmail.
Google announced certain third-party apps would no longer be able to connect to your email account for automation purpose.
IFTTT is an application which helps integrate certain online services.
Those who used IFTTT connected with Gmail were able to auto-save attachments, create reminders, send notifications, manage your calendar and more.

Although this might sound like a nuisance, it is being rolled out with security and privacy in mind.
IFTTT made the announcement in a blog post: “On March 31st, Google is implementing changes to their API ecosystem that will impact the Gmail service on IFTTT.
“Unfortunately, this change means that all Gmail triggers and the Create a draft section will be removed from IFTTT.
“The Gmail actions Send an email and Send yourself an email will remain intact. Please sign in to view which of your Gmail Applets will be affected.”
Speaking about the wider implications of the change, IFTTT said: “We’ve long had a good relationship with Google and we support their efforts to improve privacy and security, though we understand this change may be a disappointment to the communities that use these Applets.
“We look forward to working with Google in the future to bring new, sustainable services to IFTTT in ways that empower everyone to benefit from and control their data.”
So for those who use IFTTT to automate their Gmail account need to find a suitable replacement by March 31.
For example, Hotmail accounts can still be inked with IFTTT, so you could use this as an alternative account.
However, it doesn’t mean you have to take any action.
Google explained:
“Although you don’t need to take any action, we wanted to let you know that the following third-party apps will no longer be able to access some data in your Google Account, including your Gmail content. This change will go into effect starting 31 March 2019.
“We are making this change as part of ongoing efforts to make sure that your data is protected and private. These apps haven’t yet complied with our updated data privacy requirements announced on 8 October 2018.”
