Galaxy Note 10 was unwrapped by Samsung at a scheduled Unpacked event on August 7 – the device comes in three models: the standard Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Note 10+ and the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G.
The latter is Samsung’s most premium version of the phablet series – it comes with the same features as the regular Note 10+ but also totes a 5G modem that allows it to deliver commendably fast internet speeds.
The Note 10+ 5G comes with a huge 6.8-inch display surrounded by minimal bezels, a huge 4,300mAh battery and a quartet of cameras on its rear.
The phablet’s rear photography offering is incredibly similar to that offered by the Galaxy S10 5G – the hardware comes with a primary, telephoto, ultra wide-angle and time-of-flight (TOF) lens on its rear.
Combined, the four modules deliver one of the most diverse camera systems on the market.
While the phablet’s camera system appears reminiscent to that of the S10 5G, it seems as though the Note 10’s array has eclipsed that of its premium brother, at least according to a review of the device by DxOMark.
DxOMark is a publication renowned for meticulously testing smartphone cameras and awarding them a final score based on performance.
The outlet recently placed the Note 10+ 5G at the top of its mobile rankings, claiming the Samsung phablet is the most capable device around where photography is concerned.
DxOMark awarded the Note 10+ 5G a score of 113, a figure that surpasses both the Huawei P30 Pro and Galaxy S10 5G that previously held joint first place in the outlet’s leaderboard with 112.
The Note 10+ 5G’s camera was praised for touting “improved algorithms and fine-tuning” in addition to a wider aperture for its telephoto camera.
This, it was noted, allowed the device to beat the already “excellent performance of previous high-end Samsung devices”.
DxOMark said: “With the continued improvement of camera performance for both mid-range models and cheaper flagship devices, there’s pressure on Samsung to keep improving the image quality on its premium devices.
“Fortunately, the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G does just that. Thanks to hardware advancements such as a new chipset and a wider aperture on the tele-camera, improved algorithms and fine-tuning, the Note 10+ 5G has further improved on the excellent performance of previous high-end Samsung devices, making it the top-ranked device for image quality in our database.
“It’s a solid all-rounder, with excellent still image and video quality in most lighting conditions. The Note 10+ 5G’s combination of excellent exposure, colour, detail and bokeh for stills, together with excellent all round video, means that it steals the top-spot spoils from the Huawei P30 Pro for now.”
It is also worth noting the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G was also said to have the greatest selfie snapper on a smartphone by DxOMark, too.
The phablet was awarded a final score of 99 – this figure eclipsed the S10 5G’s figure of 97.
While the outlet declared the phone’s selfie bokeh mode has “limitations”, it declared the Note 10+ is great for anyone wanting to take front-facing photos or video.
DxOMark’s verdict read: “The Samsung Galaxy Note+ 5G front camera delivers excellent still image and video quality across all shooting and light conditions and deservedly earns itself the new number one spot in our DxOMark Selfie ranking. In Photo mode, exposure and colour rendering are very good in most situations, and a wide focus range ensures that subjects are in focus at any shooting distance.
“Bokeh mode has some limitations but is still capable of producing pleasant and fairly natural-looking results. When recording videos, the Note 10+ 5G benefits from its 4K default resolution, delivering excellent detail under most light conditions. Autofocus and stabilisation systems work very accurately and efficiently as well, and overall the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G is easily recommended to any selfie photo or video shooter.”
