Facebook Messenger finally lets you unsend messages – but there’s a catch

Whether it’s an early ‘Happy Birthday’ or a cringe photo to the wrong person, we’ve all been in the awkward situation of regretting sending a message.

Now, Facebook has finally rolled out a new ‘unsend’ feature on its Messenger platform, which lets users delete sent messages.

However, there’s a catch. You’ll only have 10 minutes to see the error of your ways, after which point the message will be there to stay.

A spokesperson for Facebook said: “As of today, Facebook users across the world have more control over their conversations and are able to delete messages within a limited amount of time.”

While many are bound to see the time limit as restrictive, Facebook explained that it’s there to ‘provide users with more control and flexibility over their messages while also ensuring we prevent abuse of the feature.’

Thankfully, if you do receive a harmful message and the sender removes it, you will still be able to report the conversation to Facebook for investigation.

The unsend feature will roll out to Facebook Messenger users worldwide from today.
