Elon Musk reveals what he knows about AI, aliens, Area 51 and the apocalypse

Elon Musk has spoken out about aliens and the apocalypse in a wide-ranging conversation with the co-founder of ‘Amazon for China’ firm Alibaba.

The billionaire spoke alongside Jack Ma during a debate in Shanghai, where the topic of conversation turned to space travel.

Elon said there was a high risk of some apocalyptic disaster befalling humanity, meaning we had to begin work immediately on colonising Mars or other planets.

He also revealed what he really knew about the existence of aliens and discussed whether he’d visited the top-secret research base Area 51.

The genius tech mogul said it was fundamentally important for humans to launch Mars exploration missions.

‘Not from the standpoint of Mars just being an escape hatch or because I think Earth is doomed, but because there is a certain irreducible probability that something may happen to Earth,’ he continued.

‘Despite our best intentions and everything we try to do, there is a probability of external forces or some internal unforced error causing civilisation to be destroyed or sufficiently impaired such that it can no longer extend to another planet.’

He said the fact we’ve not managed to see any aliens could indicate our society is doomed to destruction.

Some scientists have suggested the reason humanity has been unable to detect extraterrestrial civilisations is that intelligent beings inevitably kill themselves or die out in natural disasters before becoming sophisticated enough to journey through space and send messages through the cosmos.

‘I think we should not take it for granted that consciousness will continue because we have not encountered any aliens,’ Elon said.

‘I think the thing about Mars is that it’s important for us to take the set of actions that are most likely to continue consciousness into the future.’

Musk dismissed people who think the government is covering up the existence of aliens.

‘There are people out there who think we have found aliens,’ he said.

‘Trust me, I would know: we have not.

‘People ask me if I’ve been to Area 51. Ok, please.

‘SpaceX actually has area 59 and it’s eight better than area 51.’

The billionaire called on humanity to urgently work on building technology that will allow us to colonise other planets and stated: ‘This is the first time in the 4.5 billion year history of Earth that it’s been possible to extend the life beyond earth.

‘How long will this window be open?

‘It would be wise to assume it is open for a short time, so let us secure the future such that the light of consciousness is not extinguished.’

He said our species could maintain its own survival by spending ‘somewhere between what we spend on lipstick and on health care’.
