Google Android fans could soon get access to great feature currently found on Apple’s iPhone.
According to a report from 9to5Google, the US technology firm is working on a new option that will allow users to send and receive files in a much faster and easier fashion,
Called “Fast Share”, this option could work in a very similar way to Apple’s popular AirDrop with Android users able to beam files, photos, websites and even snippets of text to nearby phones without needing an internet connection.
This new “Fast Share” option looks set to replace Android Beam which is nowhere to be found in Google’s latest Android Q update.
Along with the report, 9to5Google has also published screenshots showing how this update will work.
Once activated it seems that users will simply need to get close to another compatible Android device with files then sent and received via one tap on the display.
It’s currently unclear if this will also make it easier to send files from Android to iPhone although it’s unlikely that “Fast Share” will be compatible with AirDrop.
The news of this latest feature comes as an official Android Q launch date gets closer.
Although not confirmed, it seems almost certain that users will begin getting access to this new software in August.
Android Q brings numerous improvements to this OS with extras including a Dark Theme, Live Captions and a feature called Gestural Navigation.
This mode eliminates the navigation bar area and allows apps and games to use the full screen to deliver their content.
One other noteworthy extra is Focus Mode which is designed for all those times you’re working or studying, and you want to focus to get something done.
With Focus Mode, you can pick the apps that you think might distract you and silence them – for example, pausing email and the News while leaving maps and text message apps active.
You can then use Quick Tiles to turn on Focus Mode any time you want to focus. Under the covers, these apps will be paused – until you come out of Focus Mode.
Expect more news on an official Android release in the coming weeks.
