WWE legend Undertaker on his injury hell and the time he was set on fire

The Dead Man has enjoyed a glittering near three-decade career inside the ring and held the world title on seven occasions.

But the 53-year-old Taker, real name Mark Calaway, has put his body through all-sorts of turmoil in order to entertain the WWE Universe.

The American Bad Ass even once famously continued to wrestle despite being inadvertently set alight on his way to the ring at Elimination Chamber in 2010.

During the show he could be seen pouring cold water on what would turn out to be second-degree burns to his neck and chest area.

However, the flaming fiasco is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the damage his body has suffered.

And he has now revealed he has had up to 17 surgeries – including operations to repair crushed eye sockets.

In a fascinating interview with pastor Ed Young, Undertaker said: “In the last 28 years I’d say conservatively I’ve had 15, 16, 17 surgeries.

“I’ve had both my eye sockets crushed, I’ve been set on fire… That was not fun.

“I’ve torn a pec, I’ve torn biceps. I’ve had several joint surgeries just to get floating bone chips and different things removed. Been concussed, I don’t even know how many times.

“Yeah, it’s taken a pretty good toll on the body so it’s kinda smoke and mirrors to kinda keep everything together. A lot of tape, a lot of stretching and ice.

“It’s not as glamorous as a lot of people think. Obviously I love it, it was my calling and my passion in life. But it’s not nearly as glamorous as you’d think.”

Undertaker underwent hip surgery two years but returned to WWE last year, last competing at Crown Jewel in November.

But The Phenom has apparently angered WWE chiefs by agreeing to appear at the Starrcast II wrestling convention on May 25 – one day before rival promotion AEW’s show Double Or Nothing in the same city of Las Vegas.

That followed on from Taker officially deleting references to WWE for his social media accounts.

And since then he has strangely teamed up with Puerto Rican Latin hip hop artist Bad Bunny and revealed a much cooler version than his famous Grim Reaper-like demeanour during a promotion video.

There are currently no plans in WWE for the iconic Dead Man to compete at WrestleMania 35 in April.
