According to Vinnie Jones, the potential buyer knew nothing about the St James' Park side and dropped out when he heard their nickname was the Magpies.
Reports this week suggested Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani may be forced to sell the Elland Road club should they fail to win promotion this season.
That led Jones to recall a chance meeting with the anonymous investor last week.
Speaking to talkSPORT about Radrizzani selling up, the midfielder-turn-actor said: "I don’t think that would be the case.
"But if it was, I was speaking to somebody at the golf club last week and they had an offer to go in on a consortium with Newcastle.
"This American lad considered doing it, he didn’t know anything about it, but then he said, 'What put me off was their name – The Magpies.'"
Newcastle fans are desperate for owner Mike Ashley to get out of Newcastle.
And while Mike Ashley has put the club up for sale, he is demanding £300million.
Peter Kenyon was part of a consortium that attempted a move at the end of last year but they were £100m short of Ashley's asking price.
Jones also revealed he gave a sales pitch for his former club Leeds to the potential investor in case Radrizanni really is ready to leave, despite the Italian denying the reports.
The Crazy Gang member added: "I said, 'I’ll tell you what mate, I’ll tell you a club – Leeds United is what you want to buy if you have an interest in something that can go through the roof.'
"It’s a phenomenal place, they’re getting 30,000 supporters every week, which they did when I was there.
"When they’re pushing and successful, that city is absolutely alive and buzzing. It’s one of the best places in the country to live."
