UFC star Rob Font denied 'Fight of the Night' £40,000 bonus after weighing in too heavy for defeat to Chito Vera

UFC star Rob Font has been denied a £40,000 performance bonus after coming in overweight for his fight with Chito Vera.

The bout, which happened in Las Vegas on Saturday night, saw Font's unanimous decision loss sting that much more.

The bantamweight weighed in 2.5lbs above the threshold.

Under UFC policy being overweight sees fighters forfeit their rights to winning bonuses.

And that meant Font missed out on a $50,000 payment (£40,000) for the bout.

During the five-round fight Font landed 100 more strikes than his opponent.

However, the deciding factor in the match was the American being dropped three times.

The 34-year-old currently holds a position in the top five at 135-pounds, and will likely be joined by Vera.

The Ecuador international has now won three fights in a row.

On the other hand Font has now lost in consecutive bouts, with his last win now coming in May last year against Cody Garbrandt.
