Transfer deadline day: When football fans get tattoos of players that don't sign and other hilarious fails

And they get so excited when a player is linked to their club, they actually convince themselves that the deal's going to happen.

Some will go with the speculation and get a player's name on the back of their team's jersey.

Others venture further getting their body inked with their favourite player.

However, you can be left with egg on your face when the move doesn't happen. Let SunSport show you how.

When Andy Cole became Les Ferdinand

One Newcastle fan was left devastated when Andy Cole traded Tyneside for Manchester.

It must've been especially damning since he had a huge tattoo of the prolific marksman on his thigh done just a season or so earlier.

So how did he fix his tattoo? He only got a tattoo artist to rework Andy into incoming singing Les Ferdinand.

The results were… horrendous.

Kolo Touro… that well-known Ivory Coast centre half

Signing veteran defender Kolo Toure from Man City in 2013 was quite a coup for Liverpool.

He'd already played in England for 11-years before the Reds snatched him from their rivals.

However, one fan misspelled his name on a foot tattoo he had done celebrating the new acquisition. Toure became Touro overnight.

Amusingly, Toure contacted the fan online and asked him if he should get his shirt name to match the tattoo fail.

The time an Arsenal fan got a Lacazette tattoo that looked like Darren Bent

A then record signing, Alexandre Lacazette's arrival at the Emirates was met by hysteria when he signed last summer.

One fan was so hyped he got the French striker's face tattooed on his body.

Pity it looked like former Spurs striker Darren Bent.

Incidentally, Lacazette asked the fan to contact him to give him his jersey after seeing the ink job.

And Bent even poked fun at the tattoo on his own Twitter too.

A Man City fan who jumped the gun when Kaka was touted for a move to The Citizens

There must be something in the water in Manchester.

Eager Man City fan Chris Atkinson was desperate for Kaka to sign for City so he tattooed the Brazilian's name on his chest.

Kaka snubbed City in 2009 to join Real Madrid instead, and this fan was left with egg on his face.

However, it didn't bother Chris too much because he added City stars Robinho and Shaun Goater later as his dream front three.

Remember Coutinho at Arsenal? No, us neither

You can never fault fan optimism.

That's why this Gooner deserves special mention for having us believe Coutinho was swapping the red of Liverpool for the rouge of Arsenal.

You can only hope this fan was Brazilian and he shared a name with the Barcelona playmaker.

The bad speller at Everton

Cardinal rule of getting a name printed on a jersey is spelling his name right, surely?

This hapless fan was delighted with the £27m capture of Cenk Tosun.

It was just a shame the club shop got the 'O' and the 'U' in the wrong places on his last name.

The tale of Riyad Mahrez

After Leicester City scooped the league title, Arsenal were gunning for the Algerian star.

After all, he won the PFA Player of the Year and was an absolute don in the Foxes side.

One premature fan sent his shirt off to the printers to get Mahrez emblazoned on the back.

He's still waiting for that transfer to happen, but he did offload the shirt to a charity shop.
