Saints moving fast on another big name as Dez Bryant fallback

Dez Bryant’s comeback tour is giving way, and another receiver is entering the starring role.

Prior to the former Cowboys starter being sidelined after tearing his Achilles on Friday, New Orleans considered signing journeyman and brief Bryant foe, Brandon Marshall, to join the team’s depleted receiving corps, according to ESPN. Sources tell the Worldwide Leader the Saints hope to speak with the former Giant and Jet early next week.

After being released by Big Blue in April following a shortened season due to injury, Marshall, 34, signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks the following month. He was released from Seattle in October after six games.

Marshall is said to have “impressed the Saints during his workout Tuesday,” but New Orleans opted to sign Bryant instead. The 30-year-old receiver ruptured his Achilles in practice.

“Things was just starting to heat up for me … I won’t question the man upstairs … this is the ultimate test … thank you everyone for the prayers,” Bryant tweeted following the injury.

Marshall, a six-time Pro Bowler, has never played in a playoff game. The 7-1 Saints face the Bengals on Sunday.
