Everton star Gylfi Sigurdsson wears protective boot as he leaves Stamford Bridge following Jorginho's shocking challenge

Everton boss Marco Silva admits he fears the influential midfielder could be ruled out for a while after he was on the receiving end of a crude tackle from the Chelsea star.

Jorginho was lucky to escape with just a yellow card for his studs up lunge on Sigurdsson during the 0-0 draw.

The Icelandic midfielder played on through the pain but was eventually forced to come off as the injury to his right ankle continued to cause him problems.

Now the 29-year-old faces an anxious wait to discover if the problem flares up over the next couple of days to keep him sidelined for the rest of the month.

Manager Silva says he is already a major doubt for Iceland’s clash with Belgium next week and the friendly against Qatar.

And he is worried for his £45million midfielder when the Premier League resumes after the international break.

He said: “I hope we do not lose Siggurdsson for a long time because of the tackle from Jorginho.

“We have an international break and he may not be right for that. And I hope we do not lose him after that."
